x James II proof Sixty Shillings, 1688, 55.50g., struck in gold, laureate and draped bust to right, IACOBUS (with round U), rev. crowned arms, edge plain (B. 1, fig. 1064; Farquhar p. 336; St. 246; S. 5635), a spectacular coin, a tiny striking flaw in second quarter of reverse shield, slight surface marks on both sides, good extremely fine with a most attractive portrait and brilliant fields, of the highest rarity, believed to be one of only three known examples Estimate £ 12,000-15,000provenance: Spink auction 108, 7 March 1995, lot 518 All surviving Sixty Shillings of James II, in gold or silver, are believed to have been struck in 1828 by Matthew Young, using Roettiers´ original dies.
