Mainz" at upper left, bearing 1870 (Apr.) 12c. purple (2), without grill, tied by New York Foreign Mail star cancel in black. Red "new york/paid all/br.transit" on front and reverse with Ostende c.d.s. and framed "trans.brit" handstamp in black. A rare stamp on letter. S.G. 153.
