Belgium 1861 Medallions. No watermark, Frame 171/2x22mm. 1 c. green, the extraordinary corner marginal block of sixty-four (8x8) from lower left of the pane of the sheet, [31/143], showing framed "atelier des/timbres-poste/(controle)" in black below position 137. The major plate flaws are shown on positions [124-125] fwith circles on figure of value at left and at right respectively (COB 9-v1, 9-v2). The block is partly adhered to the backing paper, and there are faults with scissor cut between third and fourth row and paper splits, etc. However, this remarkable recently discovered multiple, offered for the first time at auction, is undoubtedly the largest mint block known. Fresh appearance with gum. Stunning. From the Estate of the Late Count Albéric du Chastel de la Howardries (1842-1919). Photo
