France, Marriage of Stephanie Napoleon and Karl Lugwig Prince of Bavaria, and the Visit by the Prince to the Mint 1806, silver medal by Andrieu and Brenet, 40.5mm, the couple joining hands, rev. legend in five lines within wreath (Br.523; Julius 1568), extremely fine, toned, scarce Estimate £ 200-250The medal celebrating the marriage of Josephine´s niece, Stephanie de Beauharnais-Napoleon, to Karl Lugwig Prince of Baden, has the head of Napoleon as the obverse. This medal combines this event with the visit by the Prince to the Paris Mint in March the same year.
The marriage, part of Napoleon´s dynastic policy of alliances, was not a success and Stephanie led a soliary and unhappy life for many years. Prince Karl died in 1818 and his widow eventually found happiness at the modest but lively court she established at Mannheim.
