Portugal, Manuel I (1495-1521), Português (10 Cruzados), 33.61g., Lisbon, crowned arms dividing two pellets within two circles of legend, outer ring consisting of ruler´s titles, inner ring cnc ethiopie arabie persie i, rev. voided cross, pellet in centre, three pellets at end of one arm, in hoc signo vinces around (F.20; G.73.05 var.), removed from a brooch mount, the whole surface heavily restored; otherwise a good example of this usually poor and extremely rare issue, good very fine Estimate £ 20,000-25,000provenance; Associação Numismática de Portugal, 23-4 June 2006, lot 1097. Together with a signed certificate and certified photograph from the ANP confirming the coin´s authenticity. There are several legend varieties of this coin. This specimen is nearest to that described as Gomes 73.05, with inverted N´s and the obverse inner legend ending PERSIE : I, but this legend rotated in relation to the rest of the design.
