Miniature Naval General Service 1793-1840, one clasp, Syria (R.H. Elliot. Lieut. R.N.), contemporarily engraved in upright serif capitals, nearly extremely fine Estimate £ 220-250Commander Robert Hilley Elliot, born 1804; joined as 1st Class Volunteer Royal Navy, 1818; served in the capacity of Midshipman in the South Americas with the Doris, Creole, Blossom and the Aurora, July 1821-February 1825; served as Mate in the Victory, the Barham and then the schooner Nimble, under the command of Lieutenant Commander E. Holland; for his conduct in the latter vessel at the capture of the Guerrero slaver (19.12.1827), Elliot was promoted to a Lieutenancy in the Valorous, 3.2.1828; between 1831-36 he served in the Briton, Endymion and the Revenge, before being posted to the Powerful under Captain C. Napier, 1839; he served throughout the Syrian war including the fall of St. Jean d´Acre; Commander 1840; Inspecting-Commander Coast Guard, 1844.
