Sidwell (sic), Durham Lt. Infy.), clasp carriages re-constituted; Transvaal clasp a contemporary copy; King´s South Africa 1901-02, two clasps (Cpt. F.H.S. Sitwell. Dur. L.I.), clasp carriages re-constituted; 1914-15 Star (Major F.H.S. Sitwell. K.R.Rif:C.); British War and Victory Medals (Major F.H.S. Sitwell), good very fine, together with thirteen photographs of the recipient (5) Estimate £ 240-280Major Francis Honorious Sisson Sitwell, (1861-1946), born Azinghur, India, the son of Major F.H.M. Sitwell, A.D.C. to Sir James Outram at Lucknow; educated at Harrow; Commissioned Lieutenant, 1st Battalion, Durham Light Infantry, 1882; Captain 1890; Appointed Adjutant, 3rd Battalion, Durham Light Infantry 14.9.1896; Major 1.1.1902; retired 17.9.1902; re-engaged as Temporary Major 16th Battalion King´s Royal Rifle Corps, 23.9.1914; Transferred to General List (New Armies) 9.8.1916; Attached 111th Training Reserve Battalion 1.3.1917; Attached 51st Battalion Rifle Brigade 1.2.1918; Retired 1920. Whilst in India with the Durham Light Infantry, Major Sitwell was part of the 2nd Battalion´s All-Conquering Polo Team; their Golden year was 1895 when they won the Infantry and Mohw tournaments. After retiring from the army he became a J.P. for Northumberland.
