Lanc: Regt.), light contact marks, therefore nearly very fine Estimate £ 60-803968 Regimental Sergeant Major Alexander Ritchie, born Edinburgh, Scotland; joined the Scottish Rifles 1886, leaving the Regiment the same year through purchase; joined 1st Battalion Royal Lancashire Regiment, 1893; Lance Corporal 1895; served in the Sierra Leone Rebellion 1898-99 (entitled to East and West Africa Medal with Sierra Leone clasp); served in South Africa (1899-1902) with the Mounted Infantry and was wounded at Spion Kop, 24.1.1900 (entitled to Q.S.A. with Relief of Ladysmith, Laing´s Nek, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal clasps; K.S.A. with clasps); Sergeant 1899; Colour Sergeant 22.5.1906; discharged 7.2.1913, after 21 years service with the Colours; re-engaged for the Great War as Regimental Sergeant Major, Royal Lancashire Regiment (attached 1st Battalion Dorset Regiment), 3.9.1914; served in the French theatre of operations from 17.7.1915.
