x The "cancelled" Obliterator In August 1861 the printer, Perkins, Bacon & Co., provided six examples of each stamp in their possession to Ormond Hill (eldest son of Sir Rowland Hill) for members of his family. These fascinating stamps and the story behind their appearance, have been fully described by Peter Jaffé in his book "cancelled by Perkins Bacon. 1861 no watermark, clean-cut perf 14 to 16, (1/2d.) deep green neatly cancelled by two part strikes of "cancelled" obliterator; straight-edge at right and perfs clipped at foot. Extremely rare, one of four recorded examples. S.G. 17, £6500.
