Auction: 6021 - Great Britain Stamps & Covers
Lot: 184
x Great Britain Postal History Ireland 1842 (5 Sept.) entire addressed to "The Duke of Wellington, Commander in chief of Her Majesty´s Land Forces, Horse Guards, London", the letter was not pre-paid and shows very fine strike of the blue handstruck "4" of Newry - the reverse with corresponding Newry despatch d.s. in the same colour; some light creasing though still fine and very attractive. Rare and most unusual - presumably the sender believed that Wellington´s official mail would be delivered free, the application of the handstruck "4" indicates that the letter must have weighed over half an ounce.
