x Great Britain Postal History Ireland 1841 (1 July) entire from Dromore to Lexington (Kentucky) then re-addressed to "Washington City", bearing 1840 2d. plate 1, MF-MK strip of six in a rich deep shade, margins all round (except MK with corner defect), very fine light strikes of the black Maltese Cross and tied by red American transit c.d.s., showing manuscript "Free" (in the same ink as the re-addressing details) - the reason possibly relating to the addressee: "The Honble. H. Clay", Clay ran against Andrew Jackson for President and his official position as leader of the opposition may explain why no postage due charges were levied; some light wrinking and two stamps with split filing folds, otherwise fine.
