OPTIMO PRINCIPI SC, view of the Circus Maximus showing outer colonnade and partial view of the interior (BMC.853; C.545; RIC.571), about very fine with olive green patina, rare Estimate £ 400-500The Circus Maximus was restored after a fire in 80 A.D. The reverse shows the view from the Forum Boarium, the long row of arches (the Duodecim Portae), in front of the central spina with the obelisk of Ramases II in the centre, the metae at both ends, and the shrine of Sol at the far end of the track.
