David I, Penny, 1.34g, period B, Perth, with Henry II (type XII) reverse but in David´s name, attributed to the moneyer Baldwin, crowned bust right, sceptre before e(reversed)c-----, rev. cross with pellets in crescents in quarters, ------:on:pe (St.group IV; S.5005; this coin is a die duplicate of a previously unpublished coin in the Prestwich hoard which gives the moneyer´s name, Baldwin, though on this specimen the moneyers name is not visible except for part of the last letter, which looks like an S), weak on legends, fine, extremely rare Estimate £ 750-1,000Provenance DNW Auction 67, 28 September 2005, lot 1077 * Mr Anderson says that Baldwin was the king´s lorimer (OED: maker of bits and metal mountings for horses´ bridles).
