A Victorian Standard of the Ilminster Division Troop One side of a crimson silk standard, edged with gold fringe, bearing initials IDT above the Royal Crest within a Union wreath, above VR, all in gold embroidery, the wreath partly in coloured silks, 281/2in. x 34in., in a glazed frame (approximately 12in. of fringe missing from top edge) See illustration Note: According to information kindly provided by Mr Philip Haythornthwaite, the first Ilminster Division Troop was formed in February 1831 under the command of Captain J Lee. In 1838, when many Yeomanry troops were being disbanded, it was permitted to continue its services, and the VR cypher was presumably placed on the standard at about this time. The IDT was eventually disbanded in 1847. Another troop of Yeomanry was raised in Ilminster in 1859, but this unit formed part of the West Somerset Yeomanry. Estimate £ 450-700
