Grubb, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Who Was Credited with One Enemy Aircraft Destroyed Off Beachy Head, 22.11.1940 1939-1945 Star, with Battle of Britain Bar; Air Crew Europe Star; Defence and War Medals; Air Efficiency Award, G.VI.R., ´Ind: Imp:´ (Plt. Off. H.F. Grubb. R.A.F.V.R.), nearly extremely fine, with (2) Flying Log Books (3.7.1937-2.1.1945 and 12.1.1945-12.9.1945 respectively), the first signed twice by Wing Commander Guy Gibson V.C., D.S.O., D.F.C., in his official capacity at No. 51 O.T.U. (1.1.1942 and 1.2.1942 respectively); Officer´s Pay and Allowances Book; (2) enclosure slips for Campaign medals and Air Efficiency Award, with original addressed envelope; Officer´s Application For Leave of Absence slip, leave dated 17.5.1945-31.5.1945; with related photographs of recipient (5) Estimate £ 3,800-4,200Air Force Efficiency Award 4.5.1944 Flight Lieutenant Henry Frank Grubb (1915-81), born Dalston, London; educated at Owens School, Islington; having qualified as a Chartered Surveyor, joined as Airman u/t Pilot, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, July 1937; called into service 1.9.1939; Pilot Sergeant 6.10.1939; posted 219 Squadron, Catterick (Blenheims), 16.12.1939; served with the Squadron throughout the Battle of Britain (10.7.1940-31.10.1940), mainly on ´X´ raid night patrols, including destroying an enemy aircraft whilst piloting Beaufighter R2096, 22.11.1940, ´ "X" raid night patrol intercepted 1 aircraft, later confirmed destroyed off Beachy Head´ (Log Book refers); posted as Instructor, 51 OTU, Cranfield, 9.9.1941; Warrant Officer October 1941; Pilot Officer 25.5.1942; posted 29 Squadron, West Malling, Kent (Beaufighters), 12.8.1942; posted 287 Squadron (Anti-Aircraft co-operation Unit), Croydon, 28.1.1943; Flight Lieutenant 25.5.1944; posted 5 Ferry Unit, Cairo West, 6.12.1944; released from the R.A.F. October 1945. Unusually, H.F. Grubb had a twin brother (E.F. Grubb) who shared an almost identical career, including postings, with him throughout the Second World War and their service in the Royal Air Force.
