Oxford and Cambridge Varsity Match Winner´s Cross, 80mm including Hallmarked silver ring suspension x 66mm, silver, (Hallmarks for London 1887), slight edge knocks, otherwise nearly extremely fine, together with Princess Alexandra of Wales Nursing Badge, 38mm x 22mm, silver and enamel, reverse dated 1900, suspension replaced by a silver chain; Royal National Lifeboat Association Cross, 37mm, silver (Hallmarks for London 1912) and enamel, good very fine or better (3) Estimate £ 60-80The Cross was awarded for the Humphry Challenge Cup, a long range rifle competition originally between Rifle Volunteer´s from the two ancient Universities, presented by A.P. Humphry, M.V.O. Crosses were issued in both silver and bronze, with the victors receiving silver crosses. The Humphry Challenge Cup was first contested for in 1881 over distances of 800, 900, and 1000 yards at the Wimbledon range, moving to Bisley in 1890. It is contested by a four-man team, who each shoot 15 rounds at each of the three ranges. Cambridge currently leads the series with 61 wins to Oxford´s 52.
