Oakleaves (Major W.H. Tamlyn); Defence Medal, nearly extremely fine (5) Estimate £ 1,000-1,200M.B.E. London Gazette 15.12.1944. Major William Henry Tamlyn, M.C., 10th Bn. Somerset Home Guard, ´in recognition of Meritorious Service in the Home Guard.´ M.C. London Gazette 30.7.1919 Lt. (A.Maj.) William Henry Tamlyn, 504th Fld. Coy. R.E., T.F., ´For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the morning of September 18th, 1918, a detachment of his company was detailed to follow up the infantry attack and reconnoitre and report on an old British minefield stretching across the country in front of Peiziere. The attack being held up on the right flank, and the R.E. detachment having lost touch with the advance, this officer despite the exceeding obscurity of the situation and heavy shell and machine-gun fire, proceeded to make the reconnaissance, and although subsequently seriously wounded in the right leg, sent back a clear and concise report on the position and condition of the minefield.´ M.C. London Gazette 21.5.1918 and 23.12.1918); Acting Major 22.9.1917; Corps History mentions that Tamlyn as responsible for reconnoitering and destroying a railway bridge at Chauny, ´by personally placing combustibles on the bridge and burning it´; Major Territorial Army Reserve of Officers, 20.10.1920.
