x Victoria 1855 (4 Oct.) envelope ex the "Nicholson" correspondence from Great Britain to Victoria, marked "per Shomberg", bearing Embossed 1/- green with full margins but scissor cut into design at lower right, neatly tied by crisp Liverpool "spoon" duplex, showing "1d" accountancy in red and, on reverse, "ship letter/free/g.p.o. victoria" c.d.s. in red (28.12.). An extremely fine cover. Estimate US$ 10,000-12,000Note: The "Shomberg", of the Black Ball Line, was on her maiden voyage to Australia having left Liverpool on 6th October. On 27th December she was wrecked when she ran aground off Cape Ottway. There was no loss of life and all the mail was saved and delivered.
