x St. Helena 1856 (Jan.) watermark Large Star, imperforate 6d. blue with traces of margins in places, neatly cancelled by part strike of the "cancelled" obliterator; slight thinning etc. though a presentable example. S.G. 1, £6500 Estimate US$ 3,500-4,500Note: In August 1861 the printers, Perkins, Bacon & Co., provided six examples of each stamp in their possession to Ormond Hill (eldest son of Sir Rowland Hill) for members of the family. These fascinating stamps and the story behind their appearance, have been fully described by Peter Jaffé in his book "Cancelled".
