x Australia, Port Philip (?), uniface trial striking in pewter or ´soft steel´ of the obverse design for the proposed gold coinage, undated, 9.10g., crouching kangaroo right within plain field, rev. blank; struck without a collar (cf. A.775/780; F.5/8; KM.Pn1/4), some streaky dark tone on obverse, otherwise extremely fine, very rare Estimate £ 400-500Together with a note ´Pattern for a dollar 1850 Pewter´. The attribution of this trial piece to the Port Philip coinage is tentative. The design was also used by W.J. Taylor on token Halfpennies (A.573-5, 584).
