Indian Mutiny 1857-58, two clasps, Defence of Lucknow, Lucknow (Major G.S. Macbean, Dep. Asst. Comy. Genl.), light contact mark to obverse, otherwise extremely fine Estimate £ 800-1,000General George Scougall Macbean. C.B., commissioned Ensign 74th Bengal Native Infantry, 1843; Lieutenant 1847; served in the Scinde as Commissariat Officer 1850; served with the Peshawur Force under Colonel Boileau which attacked and destroyed Boree and other villages (Medal and clasp); accompanied the Field Force from Mooltan to coerce Ali Moorad; Captain 1857; Aide-de-Camp to Major S.G.C. Renaud, 1st Madras Fusiliers, Commander of the Advance Relief Column for Cawnpore and Instigator of strict punitive measures during the period that Macbean was his A.D.C. (June 1857), including, "in two days forty-two men were hanged on the roadside, and a batch of twelve men were executed because their faces were ´turned the wrong way´ when they were met on the march.
