Died of Wounds At Bailleul. June 28th 1915.´, extremely fine, in Royal Mint case of issue; with bronze Memorial Plaque, ´John Hobbs´, and Parchment Scroll; silver regimental prize medal (Hallmarks for Birmingham 1913), reverse engraved ´Alderson Cup Winners 1914´, in fitted box with a quantity of family and portrait photographs, newspaper cuttings, pre-war service letters from the recipient in India to his sister, and the following documents etc: - Commission appointing J. Hobbs as Second Lieutenant, The Royal Scots, dated 11.12.1914 - Enclosure letter for Posthumous M.C., dated 12.7.1915 - Letter from the War Office to Mrs. Hobbs confirming husbands M.I.D., dated 18.1.1916 - Telegram of Condolence from Buckingham Palace to recipient´s wife, dated 3.7.1915 - Named and dated Army Certificates of Education for 1st, 2nd and 3rd classes, with Acting Schoolmaster´s Certificate - Copy of Marriage Certificate; correspondence from the Imperial War Graves Commission concerning the recipients grave, dated 27.11.1931, and other ephemera (lot) Estimate £ 500-550M.C. London Gazette 23.6.1915 Second Lieutenant J. Hobbs, The Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment) Second Lieutenant John Hobbs, M.C., served during the Great War with the 1st Battalion Royal Scots on the Western Front, he died of wounds 26.6.1915, and is buried at Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension (Nord), France.
