A 1942 Bomber Command D.F.M. Group of Five to Wireless Operator H.C. Gurden, No. 50 Squadron, Royal Air Force, Who Took Part in the Celebrated Low-Level Dusk Raid on the Schneider Works at Le Creusot Distinguished Flying Medal, G.VI.R., 1st ´Ind: Imp:´ type (1200709. Sgt. H.C. Gurden. R.A.F.), in named card box of issue; 1939-45 Star; Air Crew Europe Star; Defence and War Medals, extremely fine in card box of issue addressed to recipient, with enclosure slip; Observer´s and Air Gunner´s Flying Log Book (15.2.1941-22.11.1945), and other ephemera (5) Estimate £ 1,200-1,400D.F.M. London Gazette 15.6.1943 1200709 Sergeant Henry Charles Gurden No. 50 Squadron The Recommendation states ´This N.C.O. was posted to No. 50 Squadron with effect from 8th May, 1942, and carried out 30 sorties in 192.55 operational hours flying. During this time he was Wireless Operator in Flying Officer Wyeness´s crew which carried out many successful sorties, mostly on Germany´s heavily defended cities. On 17th October, 1942, he took part in the daylight raid on Le Creusot and 24th October, 1942, in the daylight raid on Milan and successfully carried them out. At all times he showed a great cheerfulness and keenness in carrying out his operations and I strongly recommend that he be awarded the non-immediate Distinguished Flying Medal.
