At the time of the award, following the Bolshovic uprising, the production and supply of Russian Orders was severly disrupted, and consequently were often hard to obtain. As a result, White Russian Awards to British servicemen during the Allied Intervention throughout the period 1919-1920 are typically incomplete, as insignia was issued with what was available. It seems probable that at the time of the presentation of the award to General Holman, there being no Stars with swords available, a Star without swords was presented alongside the sash Badge with Swords.
