Collection of material relating to the De La Rue Printing press designed by F. Nicholls, including two original drawings of the printing press, photographs, £1 (2), Peppiatt, blue and green (B.238, 249), 10/-, Hollom (B.294), F. Nicholls worked at Waterlow & Sons and later he was Chief Engineer to Thomas de la Rue & Co. Ltd. He designed and installed a rotary copper- plate press for de la Rue at the St Luke´s Work. It is believed the printing machine was used around 1927 until 1972 when they decided to convert their six dry-offset plate and inking systems to wet-litho Dahlgren dampening printing press. Also enclosed three banknotes which were probably printed on this printing press and few photographs. One photograph shows the printing of the blue helmeted Britannia five pound note.
