Vatican, Paul V, Borghese (1605-21) Restoration of the Porta Vaticano, cast bronze medal by Giacomo Antonio Moro, 48mm., bust right wearing heavily embroidered piviale depicting the giving of the Keys to Saint Peter, rev. view of the gateway (Bonanni VIII; L.919; Venuti XXXIX; Weber 269; Whitman 37), good very fine Estimate £ 170-230One of a series of large bronze medals produced by Moro in 1620, this is in effect a reissue of the smaller Annual Medal of 1618. Other medals, of the same size and using the same distinctive obverse, depict the bridge at Ceprano and the entrance to the Chapel in the Quirinal Palace.
