1816 (10 Jan.) entire letter from Dum-Dum to Culter House (Aberdeen), inscribed ´Per City of London´ and variously rated in manuscript, a range of handstruck markings with oval Bengal G.P.O. datestamp, step-type ´hastings/ship letter´, faint straight-line ´cullen´ with red ink manuscript "Missent to´ alongside, fascinating contents which relate the travails of the sender and other companions: the account of a battle at sea between whales and swordfish off the coast of Mozambique, and a battle on land in Ceylon between the sender and a native man who felt ´the weight of a Scotch fist, and he fell with great violence upon the hencoops…. to all appearance quite dead´; light folds and minor cover imperfections, though still fine.
