James I, third coinage, Halfcrown, 14.74g., king crowned and in armour holding sword, on horseback walking right, groundline below, reads MAG BRIT FRAN ET HIB, rev. square garnished shield, QVAE DEVS CONIVNXIT NEMO SEPARET, no stops on reverse, m.m. rose (N.2122; S.2666) light scratches in obverse field, fine, an extremely rare mintmark Estimate £ 600-800The obverse mintmark on this coin is a ´seeded´ rose from the same punch as the equally rare transitional Crown, FRC obverse die VII. The only other example to be offered in the last forty years (Spink Numismatic Circular, September 1989, no.4688, ex Duprée) is struck from the same obverse die. This piece shares the same reverse die as the mintmark rose coin without groundline, lot 52 below
