Commonwealth, Halfcrown, 13.84g., 1656/4 (?), shield of St. George within a wreath, rev. conjoined shields of St. George and Ireland, value above, m.m. sun on reverse only (ESC 437 var.; N.2722; S.3215) struck off-centre on an oval flan, slightly scratched, almost very fine, rare Estimate £ 300-400PROVENANCE: Bonhams, 30 May 1995, lot 325 The digit 6 in the date is clearly overstruck on a small upright. This is most likely to be the foot of a 4 but if so, it is from a smaller punch than is normally used on the Halfcrown dies.
