Commonwealth, Halfcrown, 15.22g., 1653/1, shield of St. George within a wreath, rev. conjoined shields of St. George and Ireland, value above, m.m. sun on reverse only (ESC 432; N.2722; S.3215) a handsome centrally struck coin, weak in parts, otherwise attractively toned, with some underlying golden lustre, good very fine, very rare thus Estimate £ 600-800PROVENANCE: Spink Auction 55, 8 October 1986, lot 14 E S Bell, Glendining, 9 February 2000, lot 263 The overdate, 1653/1, appears to be much rarer than the R rating in ESC.
