Charles I, Chester mint, Halfcrown, 14.10g., king in armour holding sword upright, on horse with straight tail walking left, no marks in field, rev. crowned oval shield with lion-skin garniture, double pellet stops, three pellets after REX, m.m. triangle of three pellets on reverse only (JGB 1114 (same dies); Lyall B/II; N.2628; S.3131) slightly scuffed on band of crown on reverse, a pleasing and evenly struck coin, with a clear portrait of the king, very fine, very rare Estimate £ 2,000-2,500PROVENANCE: R Richardson, Glendining, 7 April 1982, lot 65
