Charles I, group III, Halfcrown, 15.16g., type 3a2, king in armour on unadorned horse striding left, cloak flies from king´s shoulder, rough ground beneath horse, reads MAG BRIT FRA ET HIB, rev. large oval garnished shield, m.m. star (over triangle on obverse) (cf. JGB 353; N.2212; S.2776) lightly double struck on reverse, otherwise on a full flan, with an attractive light tone, very fine, a scarce mintmark Estimate £ 200-250PROVENANCE: Dix Noonan Webb, Auction 43, 8 October 199, lot 787 The mintmark on the obverse of this coin has the appearance of being star over triangle over anchor, although mintmark anchor is not known for this type. It is struck from the same dies as the first coin in the following lot.
