Charles I, group III, Halfcrowns (2), Tower, type 3a1, third horseman, king in armour on unadorned horse left, scarf flies from king´s waist, rev. oval garnished shield, (i) 14.79g., reads MAG BR FR ET HI, m.m. crown (over bell on obverse) (JGB 325 (this coin); N.2209; S.2773); (ii) 14.51g., reads MA BR FR ET HI, m.m. crown (over bell on obverse) (JGB 323 (this coin); N.2209; S.2773) the first a full round coin, with a clear portrait, very fine, the second struck off-centre on a small flan, good fine (2) Estimate £ 200-250PROVENANCE: (i) H H Snellenberg, collection purchased en bloc by Spink, 1965 J G Brooker, SCBI 33, no.325 (ii) J G Brooker, SCBI 33, no.323 The second coin is noted in SCBI 33 as being a mule of mintmarks bell/crown. The small flan makes this difficult to ascertain, and it is more probable that the obverse mintmark is crown over bell, the crown being set higher up, as on the first coin
