xJames I, third coinage, Rose-ryal, 12.47g., king enthroned holding orb and sceptre, back of throne garnished with semee of thistles, portcullis at feet, rich pattern of roses and lis in field, reads MA BRI FR ET HIB, rev. shield over cross fleury, XXX above, within circle decorated with lis, lions and roses, m.m. spur rowel (Schneider 77 (same dies); N.2108; S.2632), tiny scratches above shield on reverse under a deep reddish/gold tone, with a strong and detailed portrait, a very handsome example of this splendid work of art, almost extremely fine, rare Estimate £ 6,000-7,000 PROVENANCE:Stack´s, 30 January 1958, lot 218H J Bareford, Stack´s, 22 October 1981, lot 497Spink Auction 107, 22 November 1994, lot 55
