xJames I, second coinage, Rose-ryal, 13.75g., king enthroned holding orb and sceptre, portcullis at feet, reads MAGN BRIT, rev. square-topped shield in centre of elaborate Tudor rose, pellet stops, m.m. escallop (over rose on obverse) (Schneider 7 (same dies – further overmarked with m.m. grapes); N.2079; S.2613), very slightly creased, a most attractive and unusually detailed portrait piece, almost extremely fine for this, rare thus Estimate £ 4,000-5,000 PROVENANCE:J D Cuff, Sotheby, 8 June 1854, lot 1108Rev.
