x HONG KONG Early Letters and Handstamps 1842 (Aug.) sailor's envelope to Northampton, redirected locally, marked "H.M.S. Blonde, Eastern Expedition" at upper left, showing a partial but clear strike of the very rare "post office/hong kong/1841" handstamp in red with the "1" of "1841" removed and a manuscript "2" added, overstruck by the Felton arrival datestamp in blue. The cover is additionally marked "Paid One Rupee" with red oval-framed "india" below. The envelope flap is missing and there are several peripheral tears, nevertheless an attractive usage of this Hong Kong handstamp of which less than ten examples have been recorded. B.P.A.
