Henry V (1413-22), Groat, 3.72g., London, Henry V class A/Henry IV, type III mule, crowned ´emaciated´ bust facing, fleurs on all cusps, HENRIC DI GRA REX ANGLIE Z FRANC, rev. slipped trefoil after POSVI, reads LONDON, m.m. cross pattée with central pellet/cross pattée, (Potter Henry V die 1/Henry IV type III rev. 1, and BNJ XXX pl. IX, 1 (same dies); Harris no. 7, dies A-1/III-1; S.1761; N.1385/1359b) v-shaped striking crack at 9 o´clock, slightly scratched on both sides, otherwise an attractive and characteristic portrait coin, almost very fine, an extremely rare Estimate £ 1,000-1,200PROVENANCE: Found near Ramsbury, Wiltshire, 2004. Only two examples of this very distinctive Henry V/Henry IV mule, with the ´emaciated´ bust, have been offered at auction since 1960 - Delme-Radcliffe, lot 85 (ex RCL 1930) and Reigate Hoard lot 74.
