Richard III, Groat, 2.79g., type 2b, London, RICARD DI GRA REX ANGL Z FRANC, m.m. boar´s head 1 over sun and rose 1/sun and rose 1, (S.2156; N.1679) lightly double struck on obverse, slightly creased across king´s chest, otherwise quite a full coin, with clear mintmarks, good fine, very rare Estimate £ 800-1,000PROVENANCE: Found near Birmingham, August 2001 This piece is struck from one of the three Richard III sun and rose 1 obverse dies overpunched with a boar´s head mark at the same time as the well known sun and rose 1 dies of Edward IV/V, cf. lot 356 above. A coin struck from this die, prior to overpunching, was sold in Spink Auction 16, lot 354
