Henry VI, Groat, 3.98g., Calais, pinecone-mascle/rosette-mascle mule, crosses IIIa/V, pinecones after HENRIC, DI and GRA, mascle after REX, fleur missing from cusp at 7 o´clock, rev. rosette after SIE and POSVI, mascle before LA:, (Whitton 28c; S.1875/1859; N.1461/1446) struck slightly off centre otherwise very fine, a very rare mule Estimate £ 120-150Curiously this pinecone-mascle/rosette-mascle mule is considerably rarer than the more dramatic pinecone-mascle/annulet mule (cf. lot 173 above). There were twelve examples of the latter in the Reigate Hoard but no examples of this piece.
