Sidon.) engraved in large serif capitals; China 1857-60, no clasp, unnamed as issued; New Zealand 1845-66, dated 1863-64 (Lieut. G.G. Duff, H.M.S. Esk); Turkish Crimea, British die, with contemporary silver clasped suspension, contact marks on the first two medals, therefore very fine or better (4) Estimate £ 1,400-1,600Captain George Graham Duff, Royal Navy, served as Mate in H.M.S. Sidon in the Crimea, was present at siege and capture of Sebastopol 1854-55 (Mentioned in Despatches); Promoted Lieutenant 14.1.1857, served in H.M.S. Sparrowhawk during the Second Opium War, China 1857-60; served in New Zealand 1863-64; was seriously wounded in the celebrated assault on the Gate Pah 29.4.1864; Mentioned in Despatches for conspicuous gallantry and distinguished service and promoted Commander for his role in the assault; Advanced to Captain 22.10.1870; Retired 27.7.1874; Captain Duff died 21.11.1878.
