Baltic 1854-55 (1st. Lieut. H.W. Mawbey. Royal Marine Artily.), contemporarily engraved in large serif block capitals, edge bruising, nearly very fine, with silver riband buckle Estimate £ 450-500Major General Henry Way Mawbey, Colonel Commandant, Royal Marine Artillery, born 27.2.1826 at Portsmouth, Hampshire, the son of Lieutenant John Mawbey, Royal Navy. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant 29.12.1845, and promoted 1st Lieutenant 27.5.1848. Served on board HM Steam Frigate Firebrand between 12.10.1849 and 20.10.1852. The following day, Trafalgar Day, he transferred to HMS Britannia, where he remained for exactly a year, before being invalided home to England. Appointed to HM Steam Vessel Penelope 10.4.1854, and saw action at the forts of Bomarsund, 10.8.1854, where he commanded the Royal Marine Artillery in the Battalion during the operations against and the surrender of the forts, where he was awarded the Baltic Medal and was favourably Mentioned in Despatches. Promoted Captain 3.1.1857. Appointed to HMS Warrior 4.8.1861, thence to Artillery Headquarters 1.4.1863. Promoted Lieutenant Colonel 10.4.1867, Colonel 10.4.1872. Appointed Colonel 2nd Commandant, Royal Marine Artillery, then Colonel Commandant 3.7.1880. Retired on his advancement to Major General 3.7.1883. Died 30.04.1909 at Elm Lodge, Lavant, Chichester, aged 83. Father of Admiral Henry Lancelot Mawbey, C.B., C.V.O., A.D.C. to King George V.
