Hong Kong Treaty Ports Shanghai 1862 (24 (Oct.) envelope addressed to London "Via Southampton" bearing a poor strike of "shanghae/paid" c.d.s. in red showing reverse "C", with rate marks of "1/-" and "11" in red crayon and London Paid c.d.s., the reverse with good strikes of the type A Shanghae despatch c.d.s., blue Hong Kong transit with reverse code "C" and a superb strike of boxed "Saved from the wreck of/the Colombo." Light soiling as to be expected but in remarkable condition for a cover which had been in the water for three months. Although the Colombo picked up some China mail in Ceylon, all examples are particularly scarce. A very desirable cover. Major Richard Pratt collection. Photo
