Crime and Punishment Punishment Transportation 1854 (14 June) entire letter from ´St. Kilda´ to England concerning a convict (unnamed) who had been sentenced to a further 30 years for ´bushranging´ in Victoria, the address panel with fine ´paid/melbourne´ oval d.s. – the letter almost certainly refers to the notorious Captain Melville (alias Francis McCallum), also 1856 printed ´Ticket-of-Leave´ letter issued to Henry Stevenson (transported from Liverpool in 1836 at the age of thirteen for ´Stealing a handkerchief´!) – this man was first confined in Van Diemen´s Land, then after committing further offences was re-transported to Norfolk Island in 1845, he was pardoned in 1860 but then reconvicted for theft at Launceston in 1867.
