Crime and Punishment Punishment Transportation 1840 (3 Mar.) entire letter from convict Richard Bleathman at Green Ponds (V.D.L.) to his brother in England, he inquires about his ´legacy´ and states that he soon expects to receive a ´Ticket-of-Leave´, the address panel with black Hobart Paid d.s. and manuscript rates. Bleathman´s case was extraordinary: In 1832 he had been sentenced to death for ´riotously assembling and feloniously and with force beginning to demolish a house´, this was then commuted to transportation for life but he served only nine years before being released.
