Crime and Punishment Prisons Scotland 1794-1856, a selection of documents (2), entire letters (9) and a front, mostly relating to prisoners at various gaols (incl. Ballantrae, Edinburgh, Greenlaw, Glasgow, Stirling), others pertaining to legal or judicial matters including the 1794 entire letter from Stirling to Germany which gladly recounts the sentence of ´Transportation´ to Botany Bay for the leading members of the ´Scottish Martyrs´ (Jacobite rebels) and shows a very fine strike of the rare experimental octagonal London ´post/paid´ d.s. in red for 1 April (the first day of use for this type and probably unique as such); mostly very fine.
