Crime and Punishment Crimes Pickpocketing 1810 (22 Aug.) entire letter from Bow Street to a solicitor in Margate, the letter refers to Richard Pullen and Jos. White (both were known pickpockets), the writer stating ´I can say that they are well known at this office as two most notorious characters´, also ´The Times´ newspaper for 14 September 1797 including an article referring to George Waldron (alias Barrington) who was transported to Botany bay for picking pockets – during the journey he was instrumental in averting a mutiny by fellow prisoners, earning the respect of the ship´s captain and prison authorities, which later resulted in his appointment to a position of trust and public office in the colony Estimate £ 180-220
