Great Britain Used Abroad Crimea 1854-56 selection of entires or envelopes (17), including stampless 1854 (Dec.) envelope from the Crimea to an injured officer convalescing in England, rated "3" and showing red framed "postage not paid/to london", stampless 1855 (Aug.) envelope (with original contents) written on board a hospital ship lying off Scutari, forwarded by a Constantinople Ship Broker and carried via the French Post Office and rated "1/-"; ´crown´ between stars cancellations on 1854 (Aug.) entire letter written on board H.M.S. Rodney off the Bulgarian coast with very interesting content, bearing 1841 1d. strip of three, 1854 (Dec.) envelope "From the Black Sea Fleet" bearing 1841 2d. and perf. 1d. stars, 1854-55 envelopes (3) each bearing 1d. stars strip of three; ´cypher´ between stars cancellations on envelopes (4) bearing 1d. stars (3, one with cancellations in blue-black) also cancelling another with double rate 2d. stars (3) franking; five envelopes bearing 1d. stars (3) cancelled on arrival in London; also 1855 (15 May) letter insert written at Sebastopol on H.M.S. Inflexible with fascinating description of the siege of the city and the movements of British and Russian troops; mostly good to fine. A most interesting and valuable lot.
