Auction: 5011 - Stamps & Covers of the World
Lot: 1271
1d., perforated colour trials in three different shades, one being the distinctive brown-red shade, all with overprint type 24, part original gum, fine and fresh. The S.G. Specialised catalogue notes that only the brown-red shade can be immediately identified as a colour trial, the other two being indistinguishable from other stamps overprinted ´cancelled´ - however Marcus Samuel noted these examples came from the Vallency collection and are the three colour trials noted by S.G. (offered as such). Very rare. This lot is accompanied by a detailed typewritten account of the inks used for these trials. Photo Estimate £ 400-500
