BURMA Revenue Stamps and Papers Indian Revenue Stamps Used Postally in Burma 1861 (19 Oct.) envelope from Akyab to Calcutta, bearing Receipt Bill or Draft 1/2a. tied by manuscript "Stamped" and neatly cancelled "B/5" and showing, on reverse, sans-serif Akyab P.O. c.d.s. and arrival c.d.s. A rare acceptance of Revenue stamps for postage. Photo Estimate £ 300-400 Note: A notice in the "Calcutta Gazette" of February 27 1861 stated that "Bill and Receipt Stamps are not received for payment of Postage. A Letter with a Bill and Receipt Stamp only affixed to it will be treated as unpaid"
