Seychelles 1893 Surcharges 12c. on 16c. chestnut and blue, Die II with interpanneau margin at right, variety surcharge double, the second example appearing partially in the margin, unused; a few small faults mainly in the margin which is partially detached. Very rare. B.P.A. Certificate (1950) states that this stamp "is a clandestine printing made from genuine type". S.G. 17a, £4,500. Photo Estimate £ 400-500 Note: There would appear to be no record to verify the opinion of the certifcate. This variety is similar to that found on the 3c. on 4c. and would have been caused when the forme being applied to the right pane was misplaced to the left, creating at the same time the 'surcharge omitted in pair with normal' variety provenance: R.A.F. Winchester, 1996
